Day 10
Woke up at about 2am with hip pain again. Decided to have a yogurt.
Total cost? 50 cents for yogurt.
Dirty dishes? One. A spoon.

I got up at 7:30am and had a protein shake. Then I went to the gym.

Cost for a protein shake? 86 cents.
Today was a back day but also a hip/ankle day so I started with 5 minutes on the stationary bicycle.
I started with T-bar rows. 15 with no weight. 1:15 rest. Then 8 reps with one 45lbs plate on there. 1:15 rest. Then two sets of six reps with an additional 25lbs weight on there (70lbs total) with 1:15 rest in between each set. Total time? 5:45.

Next I moved on to to straight arm standing lat pulldowns. I did one set of 15 at 30lbs, then 3 sets of 6 reps at 50lbs. 1:15 rest in between each set. Total time? 5:45.

Lastly, I did low back extensions. No weight, just 4 sets of 10 reps with 1:15 rest between. Total? 5:45.

I then did some hip and ankle strengthening exercises and went home. 10 minutes.
Total time at gym? 32 minutes, 15 seconds.
Came home and had eggs and sausage- Takes under 2 minutes to make this. Microwave the sausage for 30 seconds on the plate you’re going to eat off of. While that’s microwaving take five eggs (3 just whites, 2 whole) and start scrambling them over high heat in a medium sized pot. Now the sausage is done. Chop it up and mix it with the eggs while you’re scrambling them all together.
Cost? Five eggs (70 cents total) and one turkey sausage ($1.00)= $1.70.
Dirty dishes? Five. Plate, pot, wooden spoon, knife, fork.

At 11:00 I had oatmeal but like I said I'm trying to step it up a notch, so now I'm having two packets instead of one.
Oatmeal- Takes 1 minute. Mix vanilla almond milk and two oatmeal packets in a microwaveable bowl. Sprinkle a little cinnamon in there if you’d like.
Cost? Oatmeal (82 cents) and vanilla almond milk (22 cents)= $1.04
Dirty dishes? Two. Bowl and spoon.

At 12:15 and I had some almonds and a coffee. I had a lecture on participant releases (things people sign to appear on camera) so I needed the almonds to tide me over til after the lecture to eat lunch and I needed the coffee, because, well, I was attending a lecture. A lecture lead by three lawyers. And as I'm sure you know, lawyers are just a hoot and a half. It was like watching an episode of "Jersey Shore" if Snooki went to Harvard, didn't drink, wore a toupee, and liked doing legal research.
I had two handfuls of almonds as a snack and my coffee was from work (plus stevia and almond milk).
Total cost? 37 cents.

At 1:30 I had a salad for lunch:
Salad- Mix 1/4 bag of spinach, 1/4 bag of snap peas, 1/3 a container of tomatoes, and 1 mini cucumber in a salad spinner. Rinse the vegetables then spin. Add 1/3 a pack of sliced turkey and 2 tablespoons Barcelona Vinaigrette. Eat the salad out of the bowl. Plus 8 ounces of flavored water.
Cost? Spinach (50 cents), snap peas (63 cents), tomatoes ($1.17), cucumber (42 cents) turkey ($1.00), dressing (44 cents), water (8 cents) = $4.69.
Dirty dishes? Four. Knife, fork, cup, salad spinner. Don't have a salad spinner? You can get one at Ikea for $3.

Today was Kristin's (my boss' boss' assistant) birthday. I had a slice of one of those fruit tart cake things. You think they're not too bad because it's fruit, but they have that unnatural sheen, like they're covered in a glaze or something. Don't fool yourself. That shit is shit. But it tastes soooooo good.
I then had a yogurt and gummi bears.
Cost? 50 cents for yogurtm 25 cents for gummi bears.
Dirty dishes? One. A spoon.

Around 7:30 I had my final work meal, some chicken and brown rice.
Rice and Chicken- Takes 1 minute 45 seconds. Pour 1/3 a bag of brown rice and 1/4 pack of chicken into a microwaveable dish and microwave for 1:30.
Cost? Rice (56 cents) and chicken ($1.50) = $2.06
Dirty dishes? Two. Bowl, fork.

For home dinner I'm going to have Despite having had chicken and brown rice earlier, this is a different kind of rice and differently flavored chicken so it won't be so repetitive. I suggest having 1 chicken breast and 1/4 of the rice. Yes you math whizzes will note that by eating only 1/4 of the rice and there only being 2 breasts in a package you will end up throwing away 1/2 the rice. That's ok. While waste is absolutely horrible and I despise it immensely, in America we are incredibly overfed and over portioned. You don't need that much rice. One of the breasts and 1/4 of the rice will be plenty. I will have my sparkling lemonade beverage and lastly will have a protein shake before bed.
Cost? Chicken and rice ($3.15), lemonade (64 cents), protein shake (86 cents) = $4.65
Dirty dishes? Six. Plate, knife, fork, cup, Magic Bullet mug, Magic Bullet blade.

Total cost for eating right today? $17.12
I worked on two hugely exhausting deals today so I'm all tapped out for creative energy. No funny closer, just me saying, until tomorrow!
Total cost? 50 cents for yogurt.

Day 9
I woke up at about 3am with an excruciating amount of pain in my hip. This happens from time to time since the accident, but last night was insane. It took me a minute to get out of bed but sometimes if I get vertical for a while the pain subsides. I figured as long as I was up I would eat something so I had a strawberry yogurt and fig bar.
Total cost? 50 cents for yogurt. I don't know for fig bar. I forgot to take a picture of the yogurt but it's exactly the same as the vanilla one, but strawberry.
Dirty dishes? One. A spoon.

I got up at 8am and had a protein shake. Then I went to the gym.

Cost for a protein shake? 86 cents.
Today I worked on my chesticles. All on benches.
I started with the flat bench. I did 15 reps with just the bar and then rested for 1:15. I then added a 25lb plate to each side (total 50lbs) and did 3 sets of 8 reps with 1:15 rest in between each set.

I then moved to the decline bench. I did 15 reps with no weight and then rested for 1:15. I then added a 25lb plate to each side (total 50lbs) and did 1 set of 6 reps, a 2nd set of 7 reps, then a final set of 6 reps with 1:15 rest between each set.

Lastly I did the incline bench. I again did 15 reps with just the bar and then added a 25lb plate to each side (total 50lbs). I managed to squeeze out 4 reps. So, my body was saying it had had enough. I could either stop lifting or drastically reduce my weight, but I could not continue as it was. So, I essentially halved the weight so that I could get two more sets in. I did 7 reps at 30lbs for my next set and my final set was 6 reps at 30lbs. Again, 1:15 rest between each set. Ego is a funny thing. I felt a slight bit of shame when I was putting the 25lbs plates on the bench but having to reduce it to the 10lbs weight and two puny 2.5lbs plates was rather embarrassing. Then I remembered the words of Don Miguel Ruiz "Always Do Your Best". Well, this was indeed my best. For me to compare myself to the weights I used to do is ridiculous. How quickly we forget but just 5 hours prior to being at the gym I was woken up by a crippling pain in my hip from, oh ya, getting run over by a car. My best today is different than my best before the accident. So, instead of hanging my head in shame I continued on with my head held high as I pumped the same amount of iron a pre-teen anorexic could put up. Nonetheless, it was indeed my best and I felt good about that.

I then did 10 minutes of abs.
Total time at gym? 27 minutes, 15 seconds.
I'd like to take a minute to do a public service announcement. Now, if you're reading this I'm pretty sure this doesn't apply to you because none of my friends are this stupid, but just in case- if you are at the gym and you need to make/receive a phone call and it exceeds one minute, then please leave the gym. I don't care if it's 1 minute and 1 second, just go outside, talk your little head off, and then go back in. It's ok. Or at the very least recuse yourself to the lobby. It's just distracting and rude.
I came home and had breakfast. The other reason I fall into a breakfast rut is that I essentially have two kitchens. I have my kitchen at home where I have breakfast and dinner and then I have a mini fridge and microwave in my office where I have my other two meals, so I usually leave all my salad supplies in my office and thus don't have veggies to throw into my scramble in the morning. I also keep my chicken in my office, so I can't add that in to things. I know I could divy the stuff up, but as I've proven with this blog, I like to put in the bare minimal amount of effort into food and exercise, and that would just prove too much. Still, I did manage to repeat yesterday's breakfast. Also, I'm getting a little tired of blogging every day (this is time consuming) so I'm going to try to up my game a bit. The sooner I hit my goal weight, the sooner I can stop writing blog posts about it. Five eggs in the morning, more chicken and brown rice for 2nd lunch/1st dinner and we'll see what else I can do.
Eggs and Sausage- Takes under 2 minutes to make this. Add in a handful of rinsed tomatoes and continue to scramble until the eggs are done.
Cost? Five eggs (70 cents total) and one turkey sausage ($1.00)= $1.70. (tomatoes were a negligible amount- like 10 tomatoes)
Dirty dishes? Five. Plate, pot, wooden spoon, knife, fork.

At 11:00 I had an oatmeal and mint tea. I already had the mint tea so I don't know the cost, but it's the mint/lemon grass melange from Trader Joe's and it's quite refreshing.
Oatmeal- Takes 1 minute. Mix 1/2 a serving of vanilla almond milk and an oatmeal packet in a microwaveable bowl. Sprinkle a little cinnamon in there if you’d like.
Cost? Oatmeal (41 cents) and vanilla almond milk (22 cents)= $0.63
Dirty dishes? Two. Bowl and spoon.

I got back from the elementary school around 12:40 and had some almonds. I had two handfuls of almonds as a snack. What I like to do is buy a bag of raw almonds and a bag of honey sesame and then mix them together so I get the raw goodness along with the taste honey ones. It helps give you a flavorful snack because raw almonds can be pretty bland.
Total cost? 31 cents.

Dirty dishes? Four. Knife, fork, cup, salad spinner. Don't have a salad spinner? You can get one at Ikea for $3.

At 3pm my friend John came to have coffee with me. We went to Starbucks where I had a grande drip with soy milk, 2 raw sugars (curse me for forgetting my stevia packets!) and half a cinnamon swirl loaf (John ate the other half).
Around 4:00pm had a snack: Snapea Crips and gummi bears- The Snapea Crips are like healthy Cheetos. They have the same crunch and texture and are a little salty, but you can eat 1/2 a bag of them and not have to think twice about it. The Immune C plus Zinc and Echinacea Gummis- Eat 3 of them each day during cold season. It satisfies your sweet tooth and keeps you healthy.
Cost? 50 cents for Snappea Crisps, 25 cents for gummis = $0.75
Dirty dishes? None.

At 7:00 I had my final work meal, some chicken and brown rice with a glass of juice.
Two. Bowl, fork.

Veggie Juice- Mix 8 ounces of Essential Greens Vegetable Juice (1/2 a bottle) with 4 ounces of Carrot Juice (1/8 of a bottle).
Cost? Vegetable juice ($1.85), carrot juice (44 cents) = $2.29
Dirty dishes? One. A cup.

For dinner I'm going to have the same thing as last night: my other two steaks, yogurt, soda. I'm including the recipes in case you missed them last night.
For dinner I had steak. I set my toaster oven to "Broil". I season the steaks with an all-purpose steak seasoning I have (you can get at any food store) and then I cook the steak on a cookie sheet lined with tin foil (easy cleanup!) for 8 minutes. I then flip the steak and cook for another 8 minutes. That's it!

Total cost? $4.07 for 2 steaks.
Dirty dishes? Four. Knife, fork, plate, cookie sheet.
While that's broiling, I made a Persian yogurt dish called "Musteh Khiar". It's very similar to Tzatziki.
You take a mini cucumber and chop it up. Use the same knife you're going to use to eat your steak with so you have one less dish to do. Then, using the fork you're going to eat with, scoop out 2/3 of the container of yogurt into a piece of tupperware. Then add 1/2 a teaspoon of dried dill and 1/2 a teaspoon of dried mint. Then using the fork you're going to eat your steak with, mix it all together til it's evenly blended. That's it! Cover and place in the fridge until your steaks are done. I get my dill and mint from Whole Foods in the spices/herbs section.

Total cost? $1.32 for yogurt + 42 cents for cucumber = $1.75. Negligible amounts of mint and dill. **I'm not going to redo my math, but I just realized that the yogurt is going to last me for 3-4 servings so it's really less than $1.75 making our daily total less than what I posted for yesterday and less than what it will be today. Yay to saving money!
Dirty dishes? 1. Tupperware (we already counted the plate you're chopping on and the knife and fork with our steak dishes).
For the soda I used 1/2 a bottle of sparkling water and 1/3 a bottle of Passion Mango juice.
Cost? 20 cents for sparkling water, 25 cents for soda = 45 cents.
Dirty dishes? One. A cup.

Lastly, I ate my musteh khiar on eight Everything Crackers. They are amazingly tasty. I just dipped the crackers into the tupperware to scoop up the yogurt and when I done eating I'm able to cover the yogurt and refrigerate it in the same piece of tupperware I made it in and served it out of. I already had them so I don't know how much they cost but will track it next time I purchase them.

Before bed I'll have another protein shake (86 cents).
I was thinking earlier about people who say they don't have enough time. I am curious as to what people do with their time. I manage to eat right, work out, clean my own apt (no cleaning lady here!), do my own laundry INCLUDING ironing my own shirts (a despicable task) go out with my friends, work 50-60 hours a week, and sleep 7-8 hours a night. Now, I'm not saying this to prove my awesomeness (that'd just be preaching to the choir because you guys already know how dope I am), so I'm saying this in an effort to get readers to reevaluate their time management. What is it that you're doing that's eating up your time? One answer is drinking. If you're drinking/going out frequently, that tends to mess with you a bit. As I demonstrated this weekend, I can party like a rockstar, but it's just not all the time. Also, if I do go out during the week, it's only one or two drinks usually and I'm pretty much always home by midnight at the latest. The likely answer though, is that your time is eaten up by TV, so if you're feeling pressed for time, maybe you need to cut some of your TV viewing. Except for Judge Mathis, Judge Pirro, The People's Court, TMZ, Extra, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Lopez Tonight (and in the fall Lifechangers with Dr. Drew and Anderson)- those shows you should definitely continue to watch every day as I'm sure you do, but the rest of the crap can go. One way to try it out is to cancel your cable for a month and see what you do with your free time and extra money. Who knows? Maybe you can learn a new language or write a blog (both of which I'm doing). God I fucking rock. ;-)
Total cost for eating right today: $20.92
Total cost? 50 cents for yogurt. I don't know for fig bar. I forgot to take a picture of the yogurt but it's exactly the same as the vanilla one, but strawberry.
Dirty dishes? One. A spoon.
